TikTok Is Letting Users Request Blue-Tick Verification In-App

by Teresa Lam · Published Nov 23, 2022

TikTok has updated its verification process to allow users to request for a blue checkmark on the app.

Social media consultant Matt Navarra shared the news via a retweet from Australia-based creator Jonah Manzano, who discovered the new feature earlier this week. According to Manzano, after updating the TikTok app to its latest version, users of both Personal and Business accounts will be able to submit a verification request.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how you can get verified on TikTok:

  1. In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
  2. Tap the Menu button at the top.
  3. Under Settings and privacy, select Account.
  4. Then, click on Verification. You’ll be directed to a page to request verification, which reads:
“Verification is for notable people, institutions, and enterprises. Submit a request in 3 steps:
    – Meet basic requirements
    – Enter account details
    – Show notability”
Note that those under age 18 or below will need to send an email to [email protected] to get verified.
  5. Follow the steps in the app to submit a verification request.

The feature is only available in select regions at the moment. However, the update is certainly exciting news for many TikTok creators and businesses on the app. Unlike on other social media platforms, up until now, users couldn’t request verification on TikTok. The short-form video app is known for having strict criteria when it comes to handing out blue ticks. In fact, TikTok has a dedicated team that proactively seeks out accounts creating high-quality videos, and rewards them with verified badges.

TikTok is expected to reach 1.8 billion monthly active users by the end of 2022, cementing its status as one of the most popular social media platforms today. If you’re a TikTok creator, getting a blue check will not only protect you from copycats, but it will also give your account more credibility, increase your authority, and help boost the reach of your content.
